David Leo Steel, age 77, of Cecil, Ohio, passed away on Sunday morning, September 27, 2026.

Dave was born on April 4, 1949 in Defiance, Ohio. He was the late son of Leo "Bud" and Marjorie (Groh) Steel. Dave proudly served in the United States Army where he served 2 tours in the Vietnam war. He earned several commendations, including 2 Purple Hearts. After completing his military service, he worked many trades. He loved anything to do with the outdoors; hunting, fishing, and working on small engine motors, but mostly, he loved spending time with his family.

In 1976 he married Nancy (Maag) Steel, who precedes him in death.

Dave is survived by his Sons; David (Rebecca) Lawton of Norfolk, VA, Donny Dougal of Defiance, OH, Francis (Tonya) Maag of Paulding, OH, and Danny & Dale Steel of Cecil, OH, Daughters; Barb (Marc) Wiegmann of Fort Wayne, IN and Mary (Ray) Kupfersmith of Cecil, OH, Sister; Kathy (Bob) Masterson of Avon, OH, 19 Grandkids, and 24 Great Grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his Wife; Nancy, Brother; Ronald Steel, and Sisters; Vickie Kiessling, Mary Combs, Ruth Underwood, and Peggy Steel.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. at Schaffer Funeral Home Funeral in Defiance. Funeral Services will follow at 12:00 pm, with Pastor Larry Kennedy officiating. Dave will be laid to rest in Sherman Cemetery.
