Craig C. Hammersmith, age 73 of Defiance, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio. He was born on April 13, 1950 to Ralph and Louise (Carlson) Hammersmith in Defiance, Ohio. On May 6, 1983 he married Chris Knowlton, who survives. Craig and Chris owned and operated Defiance Truck Sales and Service for 35 years. He had a deep passion for Hammersmith Belgians. Craig's horse passion allows many people to also enjoy the Hammersmith Farm in Defiance as they drive by the famous award-winning Belgian horses. Craig will be dearly missed by his family and many friends and colleagues. Craig is survived by his loving wife of forty years, Chris Hammersmith of Defiance, son, Todd (Stephanie) Demar, and his granddaughter, Oakely Demar. He also leaves behind two brothers and a sister. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Memorial Service will follow at 6:00 pm at the funeral home, with Pastor Aaron Bueltman officiating. Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
