Clarence L. Meyer, age 96, of Defiance, peacefully passed away on Monday morning, June 1, 2026 at Glenn Park of Defiance.
He was born in Jewell, Ohio on September 17, 1929 to the late Otto and Nora (Travis) Meyer. Clarence is a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. On November 5, 1950 he married the love of his life, Norma Jean Graf, who survives.
Clarence had an extraordinary work ethic. At the age of 16, he worked for Defiance Milk Products as a milk hauler, and then continued his career at General Motors in 1953 until his retirement in 1995. He was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, serving on the Finance Board and as an usher. Clarence was a life member of Defiance AmVets #1991, Jewell American Legion #635, D.A.V., Defiance Fish & Game, and Defiance VFW #3360, where he volunteered with the Honor Guard. He will be greatly missed by his family and many good friends.
Clarence is survived by his loving wife Jean Meyer, his daughter, Tighe (Craig) Duston, and his sons, Brad (Amy) Meyer and Neil Meyer. He also leaves behind his granddaughter, Anna (Jonathon) Harp, and great-grandson Jaylen James Harp.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Craig Meyer, brothers, Mervin, Kenneth, William, and Otto Meyer Jr., and sisters, Alois Meyer, Lanora Meyer, and Barbara Ann Warncke.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home, with Pastor Kurt Mews officiating. Clarence will be laid to rest in Riverview Memory Gardens with Military Honors.
Memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church.
