Clare Wischmeyer Fiser, 80, of Defiance died peacefully on Monday, April 23, 2018.

She was born on August 18, 1937 in Bryan, Ohio to Clarence J. and Bessie (Strup) Wischmeyer. Clare graduated from Bryan High School in 1955 and earned her RN degree from Mercy School of Nursing in Toledo.

Clare practiced nursing until staying at home to raise her children. She was an excellent homemaker and supportive of her children's activities and the Defiance School system. Clare worked for the Defiance School Libraries and then the Defiance Public Library, Children's Department.

Upon retiring, Clare devoted time to her grandchildren and often traveled for leisure and to visit family. She volunteered at the St. Mary's Food Pantry, Defiance Regional Medical Center and was active with the Defiance County Senior Center. Clare was an avid reader who continued learning and took pleasure in birding and perennial gardening. She had a love of nature and thoroughly enjoyed observing the flora and fauna in her backyard and the region.

She is survived by her loving children, Daniel (Laura) Fiser of Oshkosh, WI, Sara (Joe Wannemacher) Fiser of Defiance and Amy Fiser of Tucson, AZ, grandchildren Emilie and Mollie Watson, Annelise, Elliot and Meredith Wannemacher and Hannah and Zoe Fiser, sister-in-law Mary Ann Wischmeyer and many dear nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, John Wischmeyer, Joan (Earl) Davis, Mary (Chuck) McCord and Herman Wischmeyer and son-in-law, Kevin Bowman.

Services will be held on Thursday, April 26 at 10:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church in Defiance. The family will receive visitors for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 9:00 am, in the church.
