Obituary

Clara Del Reynolds was born December 12, 1923 at home on Scott St to Sweetie  Desiree' (Thomas) Pruitt and Clarence Pruitt. She was the last surviving child and went home to the Lord on May 14, 2013.
From a young age Clara described herself as a "Tom boy" earnestly following closely behind her brother Otis, her best friend. She was an avid reader and won an award early on for her writing skills from Detroit Public Schools. Clara bettered herself by graduating from Northeastern High school with secretarial skills and soon found a job at Briggs factory just before the war. When a " kick me" sign mysteriously showed up pinned to her back one day, it was James Sylvester Reynolds to the rescue!  They became inseparable and married in 1947.
Each brought children to the union; James Sylvester jr,  Marilyn Lee and Edward Calup. Later came Alfred Brysa, Valerie Ruth, Dennis Clarence and Sylvia Desiree'.  Before it was fashionable Clara was a trailblazer as the first African American secretary hired by Westinghouse and proved to be the " go to" person in the office. Her reputation as a no nonsense worker meant that you could hang your hat on her word.
Once retired in 1979  she moved to Woodland Park MI and became an accomplished columnist for the local paper where her wit won her many fans. She financed several trips to Florida using her savvy business skills with weekly yard sales and dinners.  In Florida, when she wasn't exercising her gardening skills she worked tirelessly at Agape food bank often sending baby supplies back to Ohio to benefit the Community Pregnancy Centers of Northwest Ohio.
Clara served as Sunday School teacher and head Deaconess at New Jerusalem church in Lakeland Fl. She also served as a 'Honey Bee' beside her husband in the Seabees.  Clara loved all things Detroit and moved back north in 2006 often frequenting the famed Eastern Market on weekends to shop and people watch. She settled into her final retirement years in Defiance, Ohio where she joined Galilee Missionary Baptist Church endearing herself to many in the community.

Clara is survived by her loving and devoted husband of nearly 66 years James Sr., sons James Jr.(Susan) of Saginaw MI; Marilyn Ingram, Detroit, MI;  Edward Davis Sr.,  Muskegon, MI; Alfred Reynolds, Detroit ; Sitembile Malikha Abdul Mutakabbir, Columbus OH; D'Clarence (Katrina) Reynolds,  Detroit MI and Sylvia (Raymond) Blakely, Defiance, OH. Numerous grand children and great grand children, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
