Cindy A Zipfel, 65, of Defiance, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at her residence. She was born on February 5, 1958 to Donald and Joyce (Patton) Shain in Louisville, Kentucky.   On September 11, 1976 she married Paul Zipfel who survives.

Cindy was a Class of 76 graduate of Defiance High School and in 1990 began her career at Defiance City Schools in the cafeteria. She was affectionately known as the "Lunch Lady".  Through the years she mentored cafeteria student workers until retiring from her position as head cook in 2016.  Cindy was active in DHS athletics.  She enjoyed attending the Kentucky Derby and traveling with friends. Cindy is survived by her husband Paul; sons, Robert Zipfel and Charles M. Zipfel both of Defiance; daughter, Gracie Zipfel also of Defiance and her six precious grandchildren.   She also leaves a brother, Scott (Sheila) Shain and, half sister, Donna Shain all of Louisville, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Butch Shain. Visitation will be held at Schaffer Funeral Home South/Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton St) Defiance, Ohio on Sunday, April 16, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m..  A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Joe Silva officiating.
