Christopher “Chris” Matthew Carroll, 53, of Huron, OH, passed away on June 24, 2026, in Sandusky, OH.

He was born on June 28, 1972, to Thomas R. and Cheryll M. (Higley) Carroll at the Pensacola, FL Naval Hospital. Chris was a 1990 graduate of St. Francis De Sales High School, a 1994 graduate of Bowling Green State University, and a 2004 graduate of the University of Toledo College of Law. Between degrees, he worked as a Perrysburg Police Officer. For the past 20 years he has worked as an attorney with the Erie County Public Defender’s Office. Chris enjoyed his time at the lake in his younger years, Notre Dame and Chicago Bears football, Lord of The Rings, rock music, and time spent with his family, especially his grandsons. He touched many lives with his dry wit and intelligence. He will be greatly missed and remembered.

Chris was preceded in death by his mother, Cheryll Carroll. He is survived by his father, Thomas R. Carroll (Margie) of Pemberville, OH, son, Nicholaus T. (Shannon) Fitzgerald-Carroll of Toledo, OH, two grandsons Spencer and Isaac, sister, Hope Carroll of Columbus, OH, and brother, Jason (Abigail) Carroll of Perrysburg, OH. Chris leaves behind a number of nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held Tuesday July 7, 2026 from 9:00 am till 11:00 am at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson-Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street) in Defiance. A Memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 am St. John Catholic Church in Defiance, with Fr. Kevin McGraw officiating. Chris will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery in Defiance.
