Charles L. Farr Jr. Charles L. Farr Jr., 83, of Defiance, Oh. passed away Thursday, April 22nd, 2010 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born in Carteret, New Jersey on September 21, 1926, he was the son of the late Charles L. and Helen (Runge) Farr. He served in the U.S. Navy in WW II. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and transferred to Colgate University for the officers candidate school. He then went to Dartmouth in ROTC. He then went back to Colgate and graduated in 1946. He played football for Dartmouth and Colgate. On Feb. 1, 1947 Charles married Helen Eldredge (Airy) Farr who survives. He was employed by Johns-Manville Corporation for 40 years. He started at Manville as an industrial engineer working his way up to plant manager at Defiance, Parkersburg and Berlin, N.J. After retiring they moved to Defiance. He was active in the Chamber of Commerce, elected to the Who's Who in the East and served on various boards for the Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church and the Jewell American Legion Post # 635. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling, woodworking, reading and collecting antiques. Besides his wife Helen, surviving are Daughter: Candy (Dave) Rowland of Defiance Sons: Tom (Janice) Farr of Defiance, Charles L. (Sondra) Farr III of Louisville, Ky. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Sara Farr, Josh, Ben and Robyn Rowland and a great grandson: Jacob Charles Rowland. Preceded in death by a sister Grace Violet Forster and his parents. Memorial Services will be at Grace Episcopal Church 308 E.Second St. Defiance, Oh. at 11:00 A:M on Saturday, April 24th, with Rev. Eugene Pearson officiating. You may visit with the family at the luncheon immediately following the service in the parish hall. All are invited to join them for food and fellowship. In lieu of flowers suggested memorials are to the church or CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. The Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
