Charles W. Davenport Sr, 83, of Defiance, passed away on  Monday, July 30, 2018 at Promedica Defiance Regional Hospital. He was born on July 11, 1935 to James and Ella Mae (Donley) Davenport in New Castle, PA.  On April 1, 1958  he married Carolyn  (Dute) Davenport, who resides in Defiance.

Charles proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956. He worked at General Motors in Defiance for over 37 years, retiring in 1997. He was a member of UAW Local #211, and The Moose Lodge in Bryan. In his leisure time he enjoyed camping, watching western movies, and working outdoors. He loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. Charles will be greatly missed by his loving wife of  60 years, Carolyn Davenport of Defiance, sons, Wayne (Leah) Davenport of Defiance, Charles (Mindy) Davenport, Jr. of Antwerp, daughter, Sandi (Stan) Sailer of Hicksville, 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and his cat Kiki. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, James Davenport, and sister, Helen Davenport. Visitation will be held from 2-7 pm on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Memorial Services will be held on Friday, August 3, 2018 at 11:00 am at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Ted Mathes officiating, with military honors accorded by VFW #3360. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Fort Defiance Humane Society, or Defiance DAV.
