"Charlie" Dales
October 16, 1937 – February 6, 2015
Charles "Charlie" Warner Dales, 77, of Defiance, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2015 at CHP Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance, Ohio.
Charlie was born on October 16, 1937 to Winston and Alta (Coleman) Dales in Grundy, Virginia. He married Barbara (Boehm) Dales, who survives. Charlie worked as a driver for Kellermyer, Inc.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance and was an Elder at the church. Charlie was a Life Member of VFW Post #3360, and the DAV of Defiance.
Charlie joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1955, and served in the Lebanese Crisis in 1958. He was honorably discharged in 1959.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and especially enjoyed teaching the grandkids how to fish. He was an avid sports enthusiast, with football being his favorite. He loved to watch his grandchildren play in their sports, and he was their biggest fan.
Charlie is survived by his sons, Chris (Shellie) Dales of Defiance, and Doug (Emily) Dales of Columbus, daughter, Lisa (Brian) McDowell of Flowery Branch, Georgia, Grandchildren, Dauson, Kryshel,and Hayden Dales of Defiance, Kyleigh, Gavin, and Dominic Dales of Columbus, Will, Katie, and Quinn McDowell of Flowery Branch, Georgia, sister, Carol Dales Baldridge of Defiance, and brother, Lodge (Ruth Ann) Dales of Lebanon, Virginia, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Winston and Alta Dales, brother, Kenneth Dales, and sister, Loretta Ganger.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance, with Pastor Donald Luhring, officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by VFW Post #3360.
