Obituary

Charles W. Brenner, age 83, of Ney, passed away June 25 at CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center. He was born in Ney on January 13, 1928, to Frank and Bessie (Hanna) Brenner and graduated from Ney High School in 1946. On January 14, 1950, he was united in marriage to Thelma R. Renaud. Throughout his working career he was employed at Brenner's Garage, DandE Feed Co., Norwalk Truck Lines, and was a co-owner of Defiance Warehouse and Ram Industries from 1972 until his retirement in 1989. He lived to serve the community through many organizations during his life in Ney: President/Four Square Little League; member of the Ney Park Board; founding member and President/Fairview Athletic Boosters; Ney/Washington Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept. (21 yrs as Chief); Ney Town Council for 34 yrs and Mayor of Ney for 11 yrs (1969-2003). Recently he was a Board member of the Defiance Senior Center. Charles was also a very active and devoted member of St. Isidore (Marysdale) Church: President of the Parish Council; member of the Holy Name Society and the men's choir. In addition to wife Thelma, surviving family members are sons Robert (Terri) Brenner of Defiance and Gregory (Nancy) Brenner of Tolland, CT; daughters Susan (Richard) Singer of Bluffton, IN and Barbara (Mike Shellenberger) Rosebrock of Ney; grandchildren Brian and Lindsey Brenner, Matthew, Stephen and Heather Shonty, Bradley and Andrea Singer, Evan and Valerie Rosebrock; brother Richard of West Chester, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Joseph in 1930, brother Robert, and sisters Mary Jane Welker and Virginia Kroeckel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at St. Isidore (Marysdale) Church, Rt. 15, Ney. Visitation will be from 3:00pm - 8:30pm on Monday, with a prayer service at 8:00pm, at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, Defiance. Visitation is also from 9-10 Tuesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center, Defiance Senior Center or American Cancer Society.
