Catherine L. Smith, age 85 of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at TowneHouse Retirement Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was born on February 26, 1936 to the late Herbert and Mabel (Crummy) Lynch in Meadville, Pennsylvania. On December 27, 1958 she married Howard Smith, who preceded her in death on March 9, 2017.

Catherine was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Defiance and sang in the church choir. She studied abroad in Germany and earned her Bachelor's Degree at Thiel College in Greenville, PA. She worked as a Librarian, first in the Youngstown Ohio Public Library, then in the Defiance Public Schools, and finally at the Defiance Public Library until her retirement. She enjoyed playing tennis, was a lifelong reader, and enjoyed her travels to Europe to study her family genealogy. She proudly published the Smith Smatters family newsletter for family and friends across the country. Catherine is survived by her children; Larry (Jeanne) Smith and Eric (Debbie) Smith, all of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Jennifer (John) Ruggles of Indianapolis, IN, and eight grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Herbert "Bud" Lynch, and her sisters, Helen Rebel, Eleanor Williams, and  Margaret Dittmar.
