Carlos T. Marques, 91 , of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance.

He was born on May 29, 1925 to Carlos and Leonora Marques in Lisbon, Portugal. In 1949 he married Antoinette (Santamo) Marques, who preceded him in death in 1969.

Carlos was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He is retired from the Merchant Marines. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, feeding his dogs, and was a fan of WWE wrestling.

Carlos will be greatly missed by his daughters, Regina (Peter) Pinho of Tivoli, NY, Giacinta (William) Hutchinson of Webbville, KY, Marie (Fernando) Leiras of Edgewood, MD, and Mariana Marques of Redhook, NY, 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, one sister and one brother, and his three dogs, Smiley, Mongoose, and Finn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Antoinette Marques, second wife, Dolores (DePolito) Marques,who passed away in 1983, daughter, Leonora Stark, three sisters, and one brother.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, and for one hour prior to services at the church. A Vigil Service is scheduled for 4:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Father Randy Giesige officiating.
