Buss Berry
D. L. "Buss" Berry , 88, of Defiance, passed away at 10:08 A:M , Wednesday, June 24th, 2009 at the CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.
He was born in Defiance, on January 19, 1921, the son of the late Thomas and Fay (Reid) Berry.
He married Rita Fender on Oct. 15, 1949 and she died January 5, 2009.
Buss hauled milk to Defiance Milk Products from 1947 - 1952. He was part owner and manager of the Defiance Bowling Center from 1952-1964. He was part owner and manager of the Holiday Lanes from 1964 - 1978.
He served in the U.S. Navy in WW II from 1942 - 1946 as a gunner & bombardier in the North and South Pacific. Buss was a 1940 graduate of Defiance High School.
He was awarded a lifetime membership in 2002 in the Kettenring Country Club, a life member of the Defiance Elks, a member of the Jewell American Legion Post # 635, Member of the VFW Post # 3360, a former meals on wheels volunteer, a member of the Defiance City Zoning Board of Appeals for 10 years. He was the 1950 club champion at Kettenring Country club. He was inducted into the Defiance College Varsity D in 2003.
Surviving are two daughters: Christine (Charles) Kraft of Dayton and Barbara Berry of Columbus.
Three sons: Michael and John Berry of Defiance, Dr. James (Connie) Berry of Mount Dora, Florida.
Five grandchildren: Charles Kraft, Amy Kraft Beauchamp, Arron Berry, Melanie Fay Berry and Alex Berry. Preceded in death by two sisters: Lenola Pierman and Marian Berry
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon Monday, June 29, at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Father Tim Kummerer officiating.
Friends are invited to call Sunday 2-8 and Monday 10-11:30 at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home.
Interment at Riverview Memory Gardens where VFW Post # 3360 will conduct honorary military graveside rites.
