Betty Lue Hattery, 76, of Defiance, passed away on  October 23, 2014 at the CHP Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance, OH.

She was born on June 24, 1938 to Don R. and Katherine (Mewhorter) Spearman in Forest, OH. Betty loved gardening, bird watching, and polka dancing.

Betty worked as a school bus driver for Northeastern Local Schools in the 1970's. She also worked for many years as a sales clerk at Arps Hardware, Defiance.

She is survived by her four daughters, Teresa (Joe) Hiler of Defiance, Kelly Harper of Darlington, SC, Kim (Dave) Gerken of New Bavaria, Vicki (Roy) Rethmel of Defiance, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a sister, Donna Morris, and a brother, Russell Spearman, both of Kenton, OH., and brother Don E. Spearman of Findlay.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Wilbur Spearman.

A celebration of her life will take place on Tuesday, October 28, 2014. Betty's family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00 to 12:00 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, OH. A memorial service will follow at 12:00 noon with Pastor Jason Walls officiating.

A private family burial will take place at Kenton Cemetery at a later date.
