Bernice L. Westrick, 87, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2014 surrounded by her husband and family at her home in Defiance after 13+ years with Alzheimer's. Bernice was born on December 13, 1927 to Jacob and Mary (Welch) Clemens in Defiance County, Ohio. She married Eugene Westrick on July 28, 1951. Bernice was a graduate of Florida High School in Florida, Ohio. She worked at several offices in the Defiance area before she married. Later on, Bernice worked for the Campbell Soup Company in Napoleon for 15 years, retiring in 1985. She was a wonderful mother, a great cook and loved to garden. She raised enough fruits and vegetables to can an freeze for the family needs. Bernice is survived by her loving husband Eugene and children; Steven (Brenda) Westrick of Defiance, Thomas (Susan) Westrick of Rittman, Ohio; daughters: Deborah Cash and Linda (John) Hayes both of Maumee; Barbara Westrick of Defiance. Bernice has 5 grandchildren: Christopher Cash, Jordan (Brittany) Westrick, Mollie (Alex) Garza, Megan (Bobby) Blossom and Jacob Greear. Bernice has 4 great grandchildren: Ariana and Diego Garza, Landon and Leah Blossom. Bernice has also had many step grandchildren that have called her "grandma" over the years. She is survived by two brothers: Robert (Louise) Clemens of Holgate, and Charles (Marie) Clemens of Marion, Ohio. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents and sisters: Virginia Dickman, Isabel Franz, Geraldine Minsel, Ruth Karmol, Pauline Walker, Frances Miller, Mary Ann Yaw and brother Vincent (Jim) Clemens. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29 and a vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m. at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home 1753 S. Clinton St. Defiance. Visitation will also be from 10 - 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, before services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John's Catholic Church in Defiance at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 with Father Todd Dominique officiating.
