Bernard Lavon Beattie, age 84, of Defiance, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at Defiance Regional Medical Center. He was born in Washington Township, Defiance County, Ohio on August 18, 1927. He was the son of the late Emmett and Anna (Anderson) Beattie. Bernard graduated from Sherwood-Delaware High School in 1945. He was employed by Neuhauser Hatcheries, working in both Sherwood and Bryan. He later worked at General Motors of Defiance for twenty-two years. Bernard was a veteran of the United States Army. He honorably served his country as a member of the occupation forces following WWII. Bernard enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid magazine and newspaper reader and liked watching TV news programs. He was always willing to lend a hand with home improvement projects and was very good at woodworking. Bernard also enjoyed going to Clear Lake, Indiana. Surviving are two nieces, Jacqueline (David) Hoellrich of Defiance and Beverly (Steven) Warnimont of Napoleon; and a nephew, Larry Rahmel of Defiance. He is also survived by great nieces and nephews, Christina (Kurtis) Soltman of Toledo, Michelle (Ryan) Hacker of Sylvania, Chad Warnimont of Perrysburg, and Kyle Warnimont of Napoleon. Lastly, he is survived by and was a great, great uncle to Mason and Isaac Hacker of Sylvania and Karalyn Soltman of Toledo. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Bernis Rahmel. The funeral service will be held at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, Defiance, Ohio at 11 a.m. Friday, December 30, with Deacon Don Meyer officiating. Friends and family are invited to call Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and Friday from 10-11 a.m. at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, 1753 S. Clinton St., Defiance, Ohio. Interment will be at Riverview Memory Gardens with the Defiance VFW Post #3360 conducting honorary military graveside rites. Suggested memorials are to the American Heart Association.
