Barbara A. McCarthy Barbara A. McCarthy, 74, of Defiance, passed away Thursday, November 4th, 2010 at St. Vincent Medical Center. She was born in Piqua, Ohio on February 1, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Helen (Wallace) Brokaw. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church Defiance, Oh. Barb married Phillip McCarthy June 25, 1955 and he died Feb. 1, 1988. She had worked at Defiance Public Schools and Foodtown. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers and Altar Society, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Surviving are two daughters: Kathleen McCarthy of Whitehouse, Patricia Froelich (Shawn Weible) of Edgerton, Oh. Two sons: Michael (Karen) McCarthy of Napoleon, and James (Stacey) McCarthy of Colorado. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by a daughter Rose "Beth" Held, her parents, husband, and special friend Jim Burke. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 8th, with Father Todd Dominique officiating. Friends are invited to call Sunday 2-4 & 6-8 at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, A D.A.R. service will be held at 3:00 Sunday. A scripture service will be at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens. Suggested memorials are to the St. Vincent Medical Center Foundation Phillip McCarthy Memorial Fund or St. John Catholic church.
