Arlene A.
Steiner
December 4, 1927 – February 25, 2018
Arlene A. Steiner, 90, of Defiance, passed on peacefully Sunday, February 25, 2018 at The Laurels of Defiance. She was born in Saginaw, Michigan on December 4, 1927 to William and Ruth (Blaine) Twietmeyer. On April 10, 1948 she married her soul mate Donald K. Steiner in Saginaw, who preceded her in death on January 31, 2011. In her youth before marriage, Arlene worked as a soda jerk, wrote classifieds for The Saginaw News, and was an operator for Bell Telephone. There she developed her "voice with a smile", an asset that would serve her for a lifetime. While at Bell, her supervisor Mildred introduced Arlene to Mil's brother Don, and a lifelong connection was established. As a wife and mother of three, she always put her family first. She loved people, laughing and joking with her children's friends, was a girl scout leader, and baked special 3D birthday cakes. She honed her driving skills on Woodward Avenue around Detroit, useful later in life when auto crossing their Corvette with Don and the Fountain City Corvette Club. She loved music, always sang in her church choir and later in life played piano. She especially enjoyed serving the Defiance Chamber of Commerce as secretary for a number of years. She touched many lives, never hesitating to help others, even animals in need. Surviving are two sons, Ron (Karen), and Mark Steiner of Defiance; daughter Diane (Brad) Cloer, Napoleon; grandson Matthew (Jackie) and great-granddaughter Sophia Arlene Steiner, Eaton, Ohio; sisters-in-law Donna Twietmeyer, Jenison, MI, Shirley (Jack) O'Connor, Crossville, TN, and Mildred Reiberg, Due West, SC; brother-in-law James (Joanne) Steiner, Saginaw; and several nieces and nephews. Also preceding her in death are brothers Edward and Donald Twietmeyer; several in-laws, Sadie (Clifford) Wight, Robert (Buriel) Steiner, Kenneth (Helen) Steiner, and Dale Reiberg. Visitation will be Friday, March 9, 2018 at St Paul's Methodist Church, Defiance, from 11:00-11:30 am followed by a memorial service to celebrate the lives of both Don and Arlene at 11:30. A private interment service at Riverside cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the St Paul Methodist Church, Defiance Food Pantry, or the Defiance County Humane Society. On-line condolences may be shared at www.schafferfh.com.
