Ardis E. "Ardie" Bergman, age 89, of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born in Tiffin, Ohio on January 14, 1937 to the late Arthur and Maybelle (Robertson) Albus. Ardie was a 1955 graduate of Sherwood Delaware School. In 1956 she was married to David A. Kieffer until 1964. In November, 1986 she married Eugene A. Bergman, who preceded her in death in February, 2003.

Ardie was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Defiance, and was active in the Altar & Rosary Society. She worked at Dinner Bell Foods from 1966 until the plant closed in 1990. Ardie loved to travel with Gene, tend to her flower garden, and cook for her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were a great source of joy in her life. She loved her family above all else.

Ardie will be sadly missed by her four loving sons; David Kieffer, Kevin (Rosie) Kieffer, and Robert (Polly) Kieffer, her stepdaughter Theresa (Harold) Peterman, and stepson Bradley (Kathy) Bergman. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren; Matthew, Benjamin, Laura, Andrew, Joshua, Michael, Anna, and Nora, and eight great-grandchildren; Jacob, Kayla, Elizabeth, Ethan, John, Lienna, Matthew, and McRory.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter Mary Elizabeth Kieffer, brothers; Arthur, Clayton and Paul, her sister Patricia, her infant grandson Mark Kieffer, and grandson Adam Kieffer.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, with a Rosary Service at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, September 14th at St. John Catholic Church, with Fr. David Cirata officiating. Additional visitation will be held before the service from 10:00 am to 10:45 am at the funeral home. Ardie will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.
