Ann E. Steffel, age 95, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at Mercy Defiance Hospital. She was born on May 1, 1928 to the late Anthony and Elizabeth Gazarek in Jewell, Ohio. On July 2, 1951 she married Paul C. Steffel, who preceded her in death on March 1, 2009. Ann was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Defiance and was a former member of the Altar Rosary Society. She treasured her time spent at home with her children in their younger years. In her leisure time she enjoyed flower gardening and baking. Ann is survived by four sons; Robert J. (Sally) Steffel and Edward C. (Joan) Steffel, all of Defiance, Ronald M. (Carol) Steffel and Kenneth W. Steffel, all of Brutus, MI, two daughters; Elizabeth A. (Thomas) Quinn of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Patricia M. (Marc) Sawyer of Defiance, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and her nephew, Joe Konecny of Defiance. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Paul Steffel, and two sisters, Mary Gazarek and Francis Konecny. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 am at the church with Fr. Jason D'Souza officiating. Ann will be laid to rest at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary Food Pantry.
