Obituary

Amber R. Brown, age 42, of Oakwood, Ohio, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born in Paulding, Ohio, on June 23, 1983, to Bruce and Debra (Grove) Miller. Amber was a 2001 graduate of Paulding High School, earned her Bachelor's degree in 2005 from Defiance College, and Master's degree in 2007 from The University of Toledo. On April 28, 2007, she married Chad Brown, who survives.

Amber was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She was an EMT for Oakwood EMS and a volunteer fire fighter for Auglaize Township. She worked as a Primary Care Physician's Assistant and Hospitalist at Mercy Defiance Clinic and Hospital, in the Emergency Room at Lima Memorial Hospital, as a Hospitalist at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima, Ohio, and most recently as an ER Provider at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Nebraska. She touched the lives of many children as a coach for Upward Basketball in Van Wert and Defiance and coached cross county, and track at Ayersville. Amber was a Scout Master for Cub Scouts in Oakwood and a 4-H Advisor for the Happy Bunch 4-H Club in Paulding Co. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed cross stitching, baking, cooking, being outdoors, gardening, and taking care of the farm animals. Amber loved to travel with her family to The Smoky's, camping, boating, and always keeping busy with her children's sporting events.

Amber's determination, selflessness, and devotion to her family was an inspiration. She had an extraordinary work ethic, always helping and caring for others, prioritizing their needs and concerns before her own. Amber worked diligently and gracefully through her health setbacks over the past year. She made hats for the less fortunate for patients in the ER while she was working in Nebraska during her cancer journey. She will be incredibly missed and never forgotten by her family, and many good friends and colleagues.

Amber is survived by her loving husband of 18 years, Chad Brown of Oakwood; her children, Samuel, Kathryn and Jacob; parents, Bruce and Deb Miller of Oakwood; and in-laws, Thomas and Sandra Brown of Grover Hill. She also leaves behind her bothers, Cory (Elaine) Miller of Sunbury, and Caleb (Mandy) Miller of Antwerp; sister-in-law, Lyn (Nate) Webster of Van Buren; brother-in-law, Scott (Lynn) Brown of Grover Hill; her aunt Jane (Kip) Gochenour of Paulding; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews who were so dear to her heart.

She was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Norm and Donna Miller; maternal grandparents, Ed and Dort Grove; and two very special uncles that she was very close to, Jim Geething and Steve Grove.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 5-8 on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, with a Vigil Service at 2:00 pm officiated by Fr. Dave Cirata. Additional visitation will be from 9:30 am to 10:30 am on Monday morning at Schaffer Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 am on Monday, March 23rd, at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. Tom Hunyor officiating.

Memorials are suggested to Chad Brown for a college fund for their children.
