Obituary

Alva 'Bud' Rosebrock Alva 'Bud' O. Rosebrock, 85, of Defiance died suddenly Saturday night, November 21, 2015 at ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital E/R. He was born on April 18, 1930 to William Frederick Rosebrock and Augusta (Birkhahn) in a farmhouse in Henry County. He was the youngest of six children and also had six siblings from his father's first marriage. He attended Defiance City Schools and enlisted in the Army in 1947. That year he also married Shirley Ann (Wanley). They had two children, Ardith Anne (deceased) and William Frederick of Defiance. Known by many friends as "Bud," he worked at Zeller Corp. for 22 years and then owned a painting business for 3 years before working at ITT Higbea, Archbold, as a plant shift superintendent, retiring in 1993. He also ran a nursery business for 20 years and made the environment a top issue. Alva ran for Defiance Mayor twice and participated in several civic projects. He was a member of the Elk Lodge, Eagles, VFW, St. Vincent DePaul Society, Knights of Columbus and was a member of St. John's Catholic Church (Defiance). He was gifted craftsman and did many home remodeling jobs for himself as well as for others. He often helped others out and honored many agreements over the years - even when they did not serve his best interest. Bud was a Korean War Veteran, was a drill instructor in Alabama and remained in the Army Reserve afterwards. After OCS school he received his commission and served during the Vietnam Conflict with the rank of Major. A stamp collector since childhood, he amassed a large collection and was a well know collector though out the country. He had many talents that allowed him to travel to many European countries and he enjoyed travel. He has three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, daughter Ardith Morgan and son in law Herbert Morgan. He often gave to charity and his legacy will be his generosity to many worthy causes. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 27 at Riverside Cemetery where VFW Post # 3360 will conduct honorary military graveside rites. Father Eric Mueller officiating. His arrangements were entrusted to the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home. There is no visitation. Donations of remembrance can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
