Alonzo J. "Lonnie" Dirr, 84, of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima, Ohio.

He was born on May 5, 1930 to John and Lillian (Schatz) Dirr in Napoleon, Ohio. On May 2, 1954 he married Marjorie (Franzdorf) Dirr, who preceded him in death on February 24, 2013.

Alonzo was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance. He worked at General Motors in Defiance for 27 years, retiring in 1991. Alonzo was a life member of VFW #3360, UAW local #211 of Defiance, and the Highland Township Volunteer Fire Department. He loved square dancing, camping, and traveling.

Alonzo is survived by his son, Mark (Deborah) Dirr of Oakwood, daughters, Diane (Terry) Salisbury of Defiance, Amy (Gary) Fortman of Avilla, Indiana, and Melissa (Steve) Harvey of Lima, Ohio, brother, Bobby (Nancy) Lang of Montpelier, Ohio, sister, Sally Yocklin of Defiance, 6 Grandchildren, 3 Step Grandchildren, 6 Great-Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marjorie A Dirr, 6 siblings, and granddaughter, Hillary Sue Dirr.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance, Ohio, with Pastor Donald Luhring, officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memory Gardens with military graveside rites by Defiance VFW Post #3360.
