(Mcclure) Mckinnon

Alma Mae (McClure) McKinnon, 87, passed away November 1, 2013 at Bronson Commons in Mattawan, Michigan. Alma was born February 26, 1926 in Stanley, Ohio, the daughter of John and Margaret (Hiler) McClure. She grew up in a family of ten children and enjoyed telling stories about their escapades. She graduated from Malinta Grelton High School. On December 17, 1949, she was united in marriage to William McKinnon. In her younger years she loved to dance "jitterbug" and saw many of the original big bands. She loved to bowl, go to garage sales, play scrabble, do crosswords and word puzzles, watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, play the slot machines at the casino and travel with her family. She was a much-appreciated volunteer greeter at the Defiance County Medical Center for may years. Alma was a longtime resident of Ohio until relocating to Kalamazoo, Michigan in 2010.
On June 28, 1998 she was preceded in death by her husband, William. She was also preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and three sisters, Roy (Marie) McClure, Walter (Doris) McClure, John McClure, Richard McClure, Gretchen Shroyer, Margaret (Marvin) Crawford, Pauline (Tom) Thompson; and in-laws, Robert (Vera) McKinnon.. Surviving are her two daughters, Lynda ((Peg Canero)) McKinnon of Kalamazoo, MI, Kathy McKinnon (Stefano Mimmi) of Denver, CO, two sisters, Joan Groll of Lexington, OH, Carolyn Willford of Elery, OH, sister-in-law, Evelyn McClure of Fremont, IN, many nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance with Rev. James Castello officiating. Visitation is from 9-11 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
Memorials in Alma's memory may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or the Alzheimer's Association. Our family would like to offer our sincere thanks to all the staff at Bronson Commons for their loving care of Mom since August, Hospice of Southwest Michigan and West Michigan Cancer Center.
