Dr. Allen Louis Gaspar, age 62, of Defiance passed away unexpectedly in his sleep Saturday, June 22, 2013.

He was born May 7, 1951 in Toledo, the son of Louis and Wilda (Slee) Gaspar, and stepson of Robert Johns. Allen spent his childhood in Monclova and graduated from Anthony Wayne High School in 1969. He completed his undergraduate education at The Ohio State University in 1973 and went on to attend The Ohio State University College of Medicine graduating in 1976. After his residency in Internal Medicine at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, he joined The Defiance Clinic in 1979.

He is survived by his family, daughters Rachel Anne and Andrea Christine, wife of 36 years, Paula, his sisters Rita Farley, Lois Binkley and Kathy Birr, and his brother, Keith; 3 nephews and a niece. His parents and stepfather predeceased him.

Allen loved his daughters. He dedicated his life to his practice, his patients, his colleagues, and Defiance Clinic. For relaxation, he enjoyed Wednesday nights with the guys, gardening, cooking and cheering on the Buckeyes.

He will be missed.

Visitation will be Friday, June 28, 10:00am to 2:00pm and 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance.  Funeral services will be Saturday, June 29 at 10am in the funeral home, with Deacon Jeff Mayer officiating.

The family is requesting in lieu of flowers, memorials  be donated to The Ohio State University College of Medicine Fund, the Defiance Area YMCA Youth Endowment Fund, DASH or the charity of the donor's choice.
