Alberta H. Gilliam Alberta H. Gilliam, age 91, of Defiance, Oh , passed away Monday, April 14th, 2014 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. She was born in Defiance, Ohio on June 25, 1922, she was the daughter of the late August and Flora Lodissa (Hurtt) Kammeyer. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and attended Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Napoleon. Alberta retired from the United Telephone Company front desk, her and her husband had owned and operated Azzar's Restaurant in Alvada, OH. and she had worked at the Valentine Theater and Hotel Henry. Alberta was a volunteer at Rotary, ITPA telephone operators charity, Filling Home volunteer and made cancer pads for many. She loved reading and volunteering. She is survived by; five sisters: Ethel Retcher of Arthur, Barbara Bibler of Defiance, Elsie (Fred) Olinghouse of Defiance, Verona Meine of Defiance, Frances (Harry) Brown of Defiance a brother: Larry (Marilyn) Kammeyer of Archbold, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two husbands; Bert Azzar and Jim Gilliam, three sisters; Margaret Lowry, Lenora Kammeyer, Georgie Davis, five brothers; Richard, Robert, Delbert, Gene and Harold Kammeyer. Services will be at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 17th, with Pastor James Castello officiating. Friends are invited to call Wednesday 2-8 p.m. and Thursday 10 - 11 a.m. at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home 1753 S. Clinton St. Defiance. Entombment will be in Riverview Memory Gardens.
