William "Bill" F. Rittenhouse, 85, of Defiance, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born on May 2, 1933 to Noel and Pauline (Mullenix) Rittenhouse in Defiance. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. during the Korean Conflict. On March 22, 1953 he married Patsy Ann (Bosdech) Rittenhouse, who preceded him in death on August 11, 2012.
Bill worked at General Motors in Defiance for 33 years, most of those as a journeyman millwright, until his retirement in 1996. He was a lifetime member of VFW #3360. In his leisure time he enjoyed bicycling, kayaking, and working on cars. He loved the challenge of taking things apart and putting them back together. He loved spending time with his family, and he will be sadly missed by many.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Linda (Mark) Florence, Tammy (Ray) Jimenez, and Dawn (Mark) Hall, all of Defiance, sons Scott (Wanda) Rittenhouse of Defiance, and Brian (Cindy) Rittenhouse of Fort Wayne, IN. He was a proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Ann Rittenhouse, sister, Midge Ruffer, and brothers, Noel Rittenhouse, Jr. and Elmer Dean Rittenhouse.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Rev. Tim Tracy officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens, with graveside military rites accorded by VFW #3360.
