Vicki L. Howarth, 70, of Defiance, wife of Terry Eugene Howarth of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at home with her husband by her side, after a long and courageous battle with lymphoma.
Born June 25, 1947 in Clinton, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Merle "Bud" and Nancy (Longenbaugh) May.
Vicki graduated from Clinton High School in 1965 and went on to attend Springfield Memorial School of Nursing where she graduated in 1968 as a Registered Nurse. She married husband Terry on May 3, 1969 in Springfield, Illinois. After starting their family in Illinois, Terry and Vicki moved with their two children to Defiance, Ohio in 1979.
In building their life together in Defiance, Vicki worked part-time as a registered nurse at the Defiance Clinic and was active with the Spencer Elementary PTA, Defiance High School Band Boosters, and the Hospital Auxiliary. Most recently she enjoyed spending time as a member of the Wyant Art Club, the Travelers Club, and as a volunteer with the Inpatient Hospice Center.
Especially proud of her children and grandchildren, Vicki was a light to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by husband, Terry, children Eric (Erin) Howarth of Shelby, Ohio, and Amy (Kevin) Johnson of Matthews, NC, and grandchildren Sadie and Courtney Howarth and Ava and Maddux Johnson. She is also survived by siblings Peg (Frank) Lamar of Wapella, IL, Scott (Lori) May of Wapella, IL, and Kenny May of Clinton, IL. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jim May.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, with Marcella Ciccotelli and Deacon Jeff Mayer officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:30 to 11:00 am, and also from 2:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, April 11th at Schaffer Funeral Home.
