Valetta L. (Batt) Keeterle

Valetta L. (Batt) Keeterle, 84, of Defiance, went to be with her loving Savior on Sunday morning, December 9, 2018 at Twin Rivers Care Center in Defiance.   
  
She was born on August 8, 1934 to Virgil and Rosa (Hesselschwardt) Batt in Defiance. On September 3, 1955 she married Donald A. Keeterle, who resides in Defiance.  
  
Valetta was an active member of St. John Catholic Church. She earned her degree from Mercy School of Nursing in Toledo from 1952-1955, and was a Registered Nurse at The Defiance Hospital from 1958 to 1989. Valetta truly enjoyed her profession as a registered nurse, always telling stories of her days taking care of the babies and mothers in the maternity ward. Branching out her compassion, she included the children as a camp nurse at 4-H camp Palmer. Val put her nursing skills to work again when she volunteered with the red cross, and served on the board for six years. Her last volunteer work was with the hospice center caring for in-home patients. Her church was also very important to her, as she was involved in the Christian Mothers and Altar Society, Catholic Ladies of Columbus, and Christ Renews His Parish. In her leisure time she enjoyed reading, sewing, and lately it was her puzzle books.
 
Valetta will be sadly missed by her loving husband of  63 years, Donald A. Keeterle of Defiance, daughters, Judy M. Wilhelm of Ft. Wayne, IN, Gloria P.(Larry)  Coffman of Defiance, and Nancy A. (Mark) Roehrig of Defiance. She leaves behind seven grandchildren; Scott (Gina) Weidenhamer, Angie Roehrig, Andrea Friesner, Casandra (Chad) Sprow, Nick (Kala) Wilhelm, Brian (Caitlin) Roehrig, and Dustin (Cindy) Roehrig, nine great-grandchildren, and her brothers and sisters; Loretta Dierringer, Ed Batt, Rosemary Meyer, Virginia Fenstermaker, Barbara Krugh, Fr. Anthony Batt, and Steve Batt. 
  
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Peggy Lynn Keeterle.
  
Visitation will be held from 2-8 pm on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, with a Rosary Service at 2:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 14, 2018 at St. John Catholic Church, with Fr. Eric Mueller and Fr. Anthony Batt officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery.
