Ronald Burdine Sr.
November 15, 1933 ~ August 5, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years OldRonald Burdine, Sr., 83, of Defiance, passed away with his loving family by his side on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born on November 15, 1933 to Clara (Bolenbaugh) and George Burdine, Sr. in Defiance. On December 12, 1974 he married Edna (McFarland) Burdine, who preceded him in death in 2016.
Ron was a very hard-working man and a member of Sherwood Baptist Church. He worked at Dinner Bell Foods for over 40 years until its closing. Ron retired from Haviland Inc. in Van Wert, Ohio. He was a life member of Defiance County Fish & Game Club, and was Chief and Assistant Chief of Noble Twp Fire Department. He was also past president of Maumee Valley Radio Club. He loved his family above all things, and never missed a grandson's baseball game. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and woodworker. In his later years, he turned his skills to gardening and baking. Ron never missed an opportunity to help others.
Ronald will be sadly missed by his daughters, Cathy (William) Barker of Defiance, and Beverly (David) Schmidlin of Liberty Center, sons, Ron (Mary) Burdine, Jr. of Antwerp, and Jeff (Linda) Burdine of Tiffin, stepchildren, Mike (Judy) Larson, Kathy (Adam) Alfero, Sue (Matt) Maravilla, Steve Wold, and Vicki (Bill) Curtis, brother, Riley (Marcy) Burdine, 29 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving spouse of 41 years, Edna Burdine, his parents, sisters, Alwilda Ankney, Annie Sulfridge, Thelma Gollihue, and Diane Burdine, brothers, George "Bud" Burdine, Jr., and Johnny Burdine.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Pastor Ted Ramey, officiating. Burial will follow the service at McCauley Cemetery.
