Roger A. Shaffer , 65, of Defiance died at the Defiance CHP on Friday evening.  He was born in Paulding, Ohio the son of Lloyd & Grace (Williams) Shaffer on September 19, 1951.  On March 28, 1999, he married Mary C. Morawski who survives in Defiance.

Roger was employed at Defiance Precision Products for 40 years retiring in 2015, he enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and traveling.  Roger was on various bowling leagues and was a member of the Defiance Eagles 372, the Moose Lodge 1248, and the VFW Post 3360.  He was a volunteer fireman and EMT with the Oakwood Fire and Rescue, and was also a reserve deputy sheriff with the Putnam County Sheriff Department.

Roger is survived by his wife Mary of Defiance, a son Shane (Amy) Shaffer of Oakwood, a daughter Shawna (Rudy) Burkley of Payne.  Step son Todd Wendell of Defiance, and step daughter Darci (Jason Burkhart) Wendell of Defiance.  10 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.  Brothers, Robert (Marcia) Shaffer of Briceton, and Harold (Lori) Shaffer of Antwerp, sisters Sue (Dick) Carnahan of Oakwood, and Donna Jean Aldrich of Defiance, a step brother Denny (Susie) Thrasher of Paulding, and last but not least his dog Zig.

Preceding him in death were his parents and step parents Eula Shaffer and Pat Thrasher.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, August 26 from 1-4 pm at the Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance with memories to be shared at 4 pm.  At the conclusion of the services the family would like to invite his friends and family to gather at the Eagles lodge to share memories and stories.  Please also dress as he would have been dressed, comfortable…….
