Roberta Ann Schmunk, 86, of Defiance, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Kingsbury Place, Defiance OH.   She was born on July 31, 1933, in Defiance OH, the daughter of Charles Peter and Nancy Jane (Herr) Schmunk.

Roberta grew up in Defiance and graduated from Defiance High School in 1951.  She then went to Bowling Green State University where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree with honors in 1955, and then her Masters of Science Degree in 1959.  Roberta was an elementary school teacher in Defiance City Schools for 30 years, having taught at Brickel, Slocum, and Anthony Wayne Schools, all of Defiance.  In her retirement she was a member of Defiance County Retired Teachers and Ohio Retired Teachers Association.  She also belonged to the National Education Association, Ohio Education Association, BGSU Alumni Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma Society.  Roberta also was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, a Friend of the Defiance Library, a Defiance Hospital  Auxiliary Volunteer where she helped at gift shop and thrift shop.  She was a great animal lover who rescued many dogs and cats.  Roberta was also a great reader of  mysteries and biographies.

Roberta is survived by many cousins and friends, especially Peggy Stork, Ruth Strable, Jamie Mehring, Mary Hughes Roh, and Trish Dingus.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Patsy Jane Schmunk, and her very best cousin, Mary Jane (Schmunk) Mehring.

Visitation for Roberta will be held Monday, January 1, 2018, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.  Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at 11:30 am at Zion Lutheran Church Defiance, with Rev. Timothy Reynolds officiating.

Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery, Defiance.
