Robert W. Shaffer

Robert W. Shaffer Sr., 82, of Defiance, passed away on Monday evening, December 17, 2018 at Mercy Defiance Hospital.   
  
He was born on January 3, 1936 to the late Herbert and Daydn (Cheatwood) Shaffer in Bowling Green, Ohio.  On May 31, 1953 he married Marilyn Jean (Huey) Shaffer, who preceded him in death on July 15, 2011. Robert proudly served our country in the U.S.Army  from 1956-1957.  

Robert was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church as a Lay Reader, and AMVETS #1991. He was a salesman and driver for Cain's Potato Chips in Bowling Green, OH for over 30 years until his retirement, and he also worked at Cooper's Furniture Store in Oakwood, and Perez Foods in Holgate. He was a  huge fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Indians. Robert had a deep and steadfast faith in Jesus Christ.
  
Together, during their marriage of 58 years, Robert and Marilyn raised five children who will miss him dearly; Terri (Bob) Wilk of Sanibel Island, FL, Richard (Cindy) Shaffer, Herbert (Karen) Shaffer, Tami Fisher, and Robert Shaffer, Jr., all of Defiance. He will also be missed by seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, sisters-in-laws, Kate Shaffer of Luckey, OH and Pat (Tom) Uncapher of Findlay, OH, brother-in-law, Bob (Linda) Huey of Punta Gorda, FL, and son-in-law Doug Fisher of Defiance. 
  
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Jean Shaffer, seven brothers, four sisters, and one grandson. 
  
Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm at the church, with Rev. Donald L. Luhring officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens, with graveside military honors accorded by VFW #3360.
