Robert L. Retcher, 85, of Defiance, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018 at The Laurels of Defiance.
  
He was born on October 26, 1932 to Henry and Anna ( Hohenberger) Retcher in Arthur, OH.  On June 30, 1956  he married Shirley (Vogel) Retcher, who resides in  Defiance.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, formerly a member of St. John Lutheran Church, both of Defiance. Robert was a Army Veteran of the Korean War, was employed at the GM Powertrain for 30 years, and at Johns Manville for 8 years. He enjoyed bowling, camping, and coached little league and pony league baseball in the Defiance Baseball Association. Robert also enjoyed going to Defiance High School sporting events, and Defiance College basketball games, and was a member of the Defiance High School Athletic Boosters. He was a life member of the AMVETS, Eagles #372, and VFW Post #3360, was a member of the Moose Hall, and a UAW #211 Retirees. Mostly, he loved family gatherings. 
  
Robert will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley Retcher of Defiance, sons, Michael (Michelle) Retcher, and Mark Retcher, all of Defiance, granddaughter, Amanda (Cody Rhodes) Retcher, and grandson, Bradley (Kali) Retcher. 
  
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Retcher, brother, Junior Retcher, and sisters, Mable Eis, Marvelle Schuette, Ethel Lange, and Luella Retcher.
  
Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home, with an AmVets Service at 7:30 pm. Additional visitation will be for  one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, January 10th at Zion Lutheran Church, with Rev. Timothy Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens, with graveside military rites accorded by VFW Post #3360.
