Rita Regina (Lalonde) Grant

Rita Regina (Lalonde) Grant, 97, of Defiance, passed away on Friday September 7, 2018 at Kingsbury Place in Defiance.  
  
She was born on January 3, 1921 to Isaac and Estella (Marchal) Lalonde in Defiance Ohio. She was a graduate of Defiance High School class of 1939 and Defiance College. One June 24, 1950 she married Jay J. Grant, who preceded her in death on August 19, 1975. Rita was the niece of Sr. Regina Marie Lalonde of the Dominican Sisters.

Rita was a teacher for 33 years at Hamler High School and Patrick Henry High School.  She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Defiance where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society.  Rita was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Organization for Women Educators # 1817, and a past president of Alpha Eta Sorority. Rita was also a member of the Ohio Retired Teacher's Association.  
 
Rita  is survived by her niece, Suzanne Lalonde and her husband Lowry Mallonen. 
  
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jay Grant, brother Louis "Ike" Lalonde, and sister, Rosaria Lalonde Beverly.
  
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. with Deacon Jeff Mayer officiating.  Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
