Richard Bolman Obituary

After a long battle with cancer, Richard L. Bolman passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at the CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

Richard was born August 30, 1936, the son of Ernest L. and Ora (Combs) Bolman in Kiefersville, Ohio.  On July 10, 1959, Richard married Dewilla "Dee" (Brooks) Bolman.

Richard was a graduate of Leipsic High School and C.I.T. Chicago with a degree in refrigeration, plumbing, heating and H.V.A.C. Technician.  He worked for Dinner Bell for 36 years and Spangler Candy Company for 9 years, retiring in February, 2000.

Richard served in the US Army 1956 through 1958, serving in Germany with the 3rd Armored Tank Division where he served as the company commanders driver and also with the Combat Command Special Police Patrol.  Richard was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he served as trustee and on church council.  Richard was a charter member of Noble Twp. Fire Department where he served as the first fire chief of the department for many years.  He also was a state certified fire instructor, training various departments in Northwest Ohio, past president of the Northwestern Ohio Volunteer Fireman's Association, and also held various other County Offices in the fire service.

Richard's passion was golfing, belonging to various leagues at St. Mike's.  He enjoyed golfing with his wife; but most of all he enjoyed watching his grandson, Ricky, golf for Defiance High School.

Richard is survived by his wife, Dee; daughter, Christina (Spanky) Spangler and son, Richard A. (Paula) Bolman.  He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Kylie (Tim) Monhollen, Shane (Lacey) Spangler, Ricky Bolman, Nicole Bolman, and Joshua Bolman, as well as great grandchildren, Lexi Monhollen, Libby Monhollen,  Everett Spangler and Delaney Spangler. Richard is also survived by his sister, Kay (Wayne) Kratzer.

Richard was preceded in death by a daughter, Jodi Renee Bolman, his parents and brother, Donald Bolman.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance.  Firemen's Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 pm Thursday.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 7, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home with Rev. Judy Williams officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens with graveside military rites accorded by VFW #3360.
