Raymond W. Hussey, 81, of Defiance, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born on August 28, 1937 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Kenneth W. and Alta (Stuckey) Hussey. On November 18, 1956 he married Rose (Wyatt) Hussey who survives.
He was a 1955 graduate of Defiance High School where he was active in football, baseball and boxing. He attended the Church of the Nazarene in Defiance. Raymond worked for G. H. Voigt Company for 18 years before becoming self-employed. He owned and operated Schroeder Building and Supply and Shepherd's Pasture Campground.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Rose Hussey of Defiance, son Ricky L. Hussey of Defiance, and daughters Robin L. Castillo and Rhonda L. (David) Casler of Defiance, and Randi (Virgil) Hall of Ney, Ohio, nine grandchildren; Chaytor, Eric, and Ashleigh Castillo, Roschele (Ken) Buraszeski, Megan Hall, Olivia (Andrew) Thiel, Emma Hussey, and Neil and Jason Casler, and two great-grandsons, Thomas Buraszeski and Briggs Thiel.
He is also survived by his sister Darlene Sabo, sisters-in-law Dora Hussey, Joann Hussey, and Gloria Hussey, and brother-in-law Gene Cline.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Kenneth Lee, Carroll Rue, Harold, and Loran Hussey, sister Ethel Jean Cline, brother-in-law Dick Sabo, son-in-law Juan M. Castillo, and grandson Kurtis Hall.
Visitation will be held from 2-8 pm on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 22, 2018 at The Church of the Nazarene in Defiance, with Pastor Donald Leonard officiating. Burial will follow the service at Taylor Cemetery.
