Paul William Finnegan, 73, of Gaylord, Michigan, and formerly of Defiance, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Mercy Defiance Hospital.   
  
He was born on January 26, 1944 to William and Marie (Wilson) Finnegan in Melrose, Ohio. On March 27, 1965 he married Retha (Sherry) Finnegan, who preceded him in death on September 19, 2012. On  June 18, 2016 he married Joanne (Bloss) Sharp, who resides in Michigan. 
  
Paul was a member of Bethel Christian Church, where he was active in Vacation Bible School and other church activities. He worked for over 40 years at General Motors in Defiance, retiring in 2000, and was a member of UAW #211. Paul was a farmer in Melrose and a skilled carpenter. He enjoyed woodworking, golf, and gardening. Paul and Joanne enjoyed spending multiple hours of activities with Carol and Lee Russell. They also loved spending their winters in Winter Haven, Florida. 
  
Paul will be sadly missed by his wife, Joanne Finnegan, son, William (Lazaro) Finnegan of Napoleon, daughter Lisa (Harold) Andrews of Defiance, stepchildren, Bill (Steve) Sharp, Sue (Mark) Topham, Allan (Donna) Sharp, Brad (Karen) Sharp, and Fred Sharp, all of Michigan, grandchildren, Jessica Ratliff, Austin (Brittney) Finnegan, Kyle Ratliff, and Megan Finnegan, great-grandchildren, Preston Finnegan and Zoey Ratliff, six step-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.
  
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Retha Finnegan, sisters, Dorothy Merrite, Violet Vance, Irene "Patty" Doster, and Eileen Finnegan, brothers, Edward Finnegan , Harold "Hap" Finnegan, Dale Finnegan, and infant brother Forest.
  
Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm, and 6-8 pm on Monday, May 15, 2017 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance and one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Bethel Christian Church, 14988 CR 209, Oakwood, OH, with Pastor Chris Baker officiating.
