Larry Lee Heilman, 78, of Defiance, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, February 13, 2019 surrounded by his family at his home in Defiance.
He was born on August 7, 1940 to the late Ralph and Mary Ellen (Curtzwiler) Heilman in Defiance. Larry was a 1958 graduate of Defiance High School. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1962 during the Vietnam War. On November 24, 1962 he married Kristin (Waggoner) Heilman, who resides in Defiance.
Larry was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Defiance, serving as an usher, past treasurer, and on the service guild. He was a member of Defiance Eagles #372, and was a life member of VFW #3360. He worked for over 27 years at Dinner Bell Foods, and at Tenneco Inc. for 10 years. In his leisure time he enjoyed MOPAR cars, car shows, fishing, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. Larry will be sadly missed by his family and many good friends.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Kristin Heilman of Defiance, son, Larry L. (Heather) Heilman II of Findlay, OH, daughter, Andrea Joost of Bryan, eight grandchildren; Nick Joost, Trisha (Nick) Fisher, Rob Joost, Paige Joost, Noah Heilman, Jacob Heilman, Dani Snyman, and Scaton Snyman, and three great-grandchildren; Anthony Bigger, Griffin Fisher, and Gavin Fisher.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, and for one hour prior to services at the church. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 18th at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with Rev. David Brobston officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens, with military rites accorded by VFW #3360.
