Julie A. Monnin, 76, of Defiance, peacefully passed away in her home on Sunday, January 21, 2018 surrounded by her family.
Julie was born on August 21, 1941 to Peter and Dorothy (Jarrett) Vincze in Tecumseh, MI. She was a graduate of Adrian Catholic High School, and St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Dayton, Ohio. On September 4, 1965 she married Jerry Monnin of Dayton, who currently resides in Defiance. The Monnin family would like to sincerely thank Great Lakes Caring (hospice in the home) for their amazing and loving support.
Julie loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, and friends. She loved traveling, following the Cavs and Indians, sending out birthday cards to literally hundreds of people, and playing the slot machines at the casino. Jerry tried (but failed) to convince her that winning meant you take the money home, not putting it all back into the machines. Julie never met a stranger and made everyone feel like they were the most important person in the world. Her genuine smile, touch or hug comforted like no other. Julie was so very proud of her children and their accomplishments. Heavily invested in all their lives, she was truly admired and adored by all of her grandchildren.
She was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, worked in the food pantry, and volunteered in many other church activities over the years.
As she begins her new journey, Julie will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 52 years, Jerry, children, Jerry (Kelly) Monnin of Defiance, Brent (Nancy) Monnin of Brunswick, Nicole Bryant of Defiance, and Jeff (Angela) Monnin of Cincinnati, sister, Joyce (Ge) Stepansky of Adrian, MI, and brother, David (Laurie) Vincze of Chicago, grandchildren, Brittany, Alexis (Trent), Delaney, Joe, John, Janelle, Heidy, Vince, Kate, Harper, and Gus, and great-grandson, Cayden.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Ostrum.
Visitation will be held from 2-5 and 6-8 pm on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, with a Rosary Service at 1:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, January 26, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Father Randy Giesige officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery.
Memorials in Julie's memory may be made to St. Mary's Food Pantry. Online condolences can be given at www.Schafferfh.com.
