Joyce Johnson, of Defiance, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Hospice of NW Ohio in Toledo, Ohio.
She was born to Bruce and Harriet (Grommon) Strain 84 years ago. Joyce was a trailblazer, working at Toledo Trust as a trust officer, and retiring in 1999 from The State Bank and Trust Co. of Defiance. But she didn't stop there. She spent the following years until the age of 80 teaching water movement at Defiance YMCA. Besides continuing her swimming, she enjoyed art at The Defiance Artist's Society, was active at The Smart Center, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
She loved many things; the red buds in bloom on St. Rt. 424, massages, music, drinking cups of hot water, exercise, and going to lunch with her friends.
Left to cherish her memory are; Tim (Barb) Shannon, Terri (Don) Grimm, Kim (Sattar) Sattar, Pam (her honorary daughter), Karen (her special niece), 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and many friends and well-wishers whom she loved with vitality to May 2019.
Visitation will be from 10-11:30 am on Friday, May 24, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church, 501 Washington Avenue, Defiance, Ohio. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 am, with Pastor Ann Wasson officiating. Immediately following the service, a lunch will be served in the basement of the church. Burial will be private.
Memorials can be made to YMCA of Defiance, Hospice of NW Ohio (Toledo), or First Presbyterian Church. Online condolences can be given at www.Schafferfh.com.
