James Lee Sunderman, 74, of Defiance, passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at his home in Defiance.
He was born on December 7, 1943 to the late Eddie and Eltha (Hoops) Sunderman in Henry County. Jim was a 1961 graduate of Deshler High School. On April 17, 1999 he married Marti (Myers) Sunderman, who preceded him in death on August 25, 2011.
Jim was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He worked as an electrician at General Motors in Defiance until his retirement. Jim served as the official scorekeeper for Defiance High School boys and girls basketball games. He was a loyal supporter of DHS Athletics, and an avid fan of Cleveland.
James is survived by his son, Greg Sunderman of Tallahassee, FL, stepdaughters, Stephanie Sito of Chicago, IL, and Shannon Forsythe of Auburn, IN, five step-grandchildren, brothers, Ken (Marilyn) Sunderman of Wauseon, Dave (Pam) Sunderman of Malinta, and Rich (Julie) Sunderman of Hamler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marti Sunderman.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, June 29, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church, with Rev. Donald L. Luhring officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery.
