Henry L. Stewart, 70, of Defiance, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Van Wert Manor in Van Wert, Ohio.
He was born on November 19, 1947 to John and Betty Jane (Johnson) Stewart in Pike County, Kentucky. On December 17, 1986 he married Linda (Hoschak) Stewart, who resides in Defiance. Henry proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969 as a paratrooper, and was the recipient of a Purple Heart.
Henry was a member of UAW Local #211, and a former member of Defiance Moose Lodge #2094 and VFW #3360. He retired from General Motors in 2004 after 34 years of dedicated service. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, camping, jigsaw puzzles, and driving his golf cart. Henry was outgoing and he loved his family and friends, who will miss him dearly.
Henry is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Linda Stewart of Defiance, brothers, John (Debbie) Stewart and Tommy (Terry) Stewart, all of Port Pierce, FL, and Troy Stewart of Port St. Lucie, FL, sisters, Minnie (Joe) Crumitt of Defiance, and Easter (Jim) Hartley-Frye of Port St. Lucie, FL, sister-in-law, Linda (Dan) Stewart-Copsey of Jewell, father-in-law, Bob Hoschak of Defiance, and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and his special pets, Sandy and Inde.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Clyde Stewart, brothers, Benny, Danny, and James Stewart, and mother-in-law, Gertrude Hoschak.
Visitation and services were held privately on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance.
The Stewart family gives special thanks to Starla Jaggers for her compassionate care and comfort given to Henry and Linda during this difficult time.
