Helen Irene Hammon, 96, of Defiance, peacefully passed away, with her husband by her side on Monday, March 12, 2018 at Twin Rivers Care and Rehabilitation Center in Defiance.
She was born on July 12, 1921 to Lawrence and Bertha (Conn) Easley in Defiance. Helen was a 1939 graduate of Defiance High School. On September 20, 1942 she married Delbert Hammon, who resides in Defiance.
Helen was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and The Eastern Star in Defiance. She previously worked as a Deputy Registrar and Recorder, and also at Zeller Corp. and Defiance Lumber. Helen was the Defiance Public Librarian for over 25 years until her retirement. She loved to read and volunteer at her church.
Helen will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 75 years, Delbert Hammon of Defiance, sons, Craig Hammon of Bowling Green, OH, and Doug Hammon of Sandusky, OH, 4 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Ruth Wallick of Dayton, OH.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Easley.
Visitation will be held from 2-6 pm on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 15th at Trinity United Methodist Church, with Pastor Judy Williams officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens.
