Gregory Allen Zachrich, PhD, 63, of Ayersville, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.
He was born on May 10, 1955 in Defiance, Ohio, the son of Charles and Mary (Hill) Zachrich. He attended St. John's Lutheran Church and Ayersville High School until 1969. He was a graduate of Crestwood High School, Dearborn Heights, Michigan in 1973. He was an engineering graduate from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 1977. He earned his Master's Degree and PhD in Engineering from the University of Florida in 1991. Gregory was a chief engineer and third mate in the Great Lakes and ocean shipping where he traveled all over the world. He was an instructor at the USMMA and SUNY Maritime Academies. Gregory was a member of the Defiance Fish and Game Pistol League.
Surviving are his brothers, Joel Zachrich of Eaton Rapids, MI, and Charles (Connie) Zachrich II of Castle Rock, CO, and sister, Deborah Z. (Roger) Gunderson, MD of Fort Collins, CO.
Preceding him in death were his father, Charles Zachrich, his mother, Mary Hull, and a brother, Michael Zachrich.
The family appreciates the kindness and support of Greg's cousins, Mary Jane, Harry, and Dick, during his later years.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Riverside Cemetery.
