Gertrude A. Becher, 93, of Defiance, passed away on  Friday, April 14, 2017 at The Laurels of Defiance.  
  
She was born on May 5, 1923 to Emery and Ruby (Merz) Diamond in Defiance, Ohio. On June 29, 1946 she married Harold F. Becher, who preceded her in death on September 16, 2005. 
  
Gertrude was a member of Ayersville United Methodist Church. She worked at the Ayersville Telephone Company for many years, starting in 1970. She became a manager in 1978, and retired in December, 1991.  Gertrude enjoyed reading her Bible and eating at Bob Evans.
  
Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Becky (Mark) Stevens of Hampton, Georgia, son, Craig (Lucinda) Becher of Defiance, grandchildren, Aaron and Brian Becher, and Ciara Stevens, great-grandchildren, Gavin, Haley, Aydin, Brittani and Sydney, great-great-grandchildren, Carter and Alora, and sister, Ruth Christman. 
  
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold F. Becher, parents, Emery and Ruby Diamond, sister, Francis Murphy, brothers, Emery Diamond, Jr., Robert Diamond, and Walter Diamond.
  
Visitation will be held Friday, April 21, 2017 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance,  and for one hour prior to the Funeral Service on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at 11:00 am at Ayersville United Methodist Church, with Rev. Clarence Dinnen officiating.
  
Entombment will take place at Riverview Memory Gardens.
