Gerarda (Manzanarez) Monsivais

Gerarda  Monsivais, 79, of Defiance, passed away on Friday,  June 14, 2019 at CHP Defiance Area Hospice Inpatient Center.  
  
She was born on October 3, 1939 to Celestino and Victoria (Florez) Manzanarez in Higueras, Mexico.  On January 17, 1972 she married Antonio Monsivais, who survives.
  
Gerarda was the Owner/Operator of "Jerri's Beauty Shop" for 43 years, retiring in 2010.  She attended St Mary Catholic Church, and enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, gardening, and especially enjoyed the time spent with Grandchildren and family.
  
Gerarda is survived by her loving spouse, Antonio Monsivais, Sr. of Defiance, OH,  2 sons, David Manzanarez of Columbus, OH, and Antoinio Monsivais, Jr. of Defiance, OH, 2 daughters, Yolanda (Juan) Millan of Chicago, IL, and Laura (Jim) Jurcevich of Columbus, OH, 6 Grandchildren; Victoria, Christian, Adan, Guillermo, Mateo, and Isabella, 2 sisters, Estefana Moreno of Dixon, IL, and Maria Monica Mansanarez of Elsa, TX. 
  
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Christina Marie Monsivais, 2 sisters, Audellia  Palomares, and Beatrice Castaneda.
  
Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm Tuesday, June 18, 2019 with a Vigil Service at 2:00 pm in Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Defiance, Ohio.
     
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00pm on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Fr. John Stites, officiating.
  
Burial will take place in the Riverside Cemetery.
