Florence Mary (Coffman) Proxmire

Florence Mary Proxmire, 93, of Defiance, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Brookview Healthcare Center in Defiance, Ohio.   
 
She was born on January 1, 1926 to Melvin and Ruth (Beardsley) Coffman in Piqua , Ohio.  On October 22, 1944 she married Gaylord J. Proxmire Sr., who preceded her in death on December 20, 2002. In her leisure time she enjoyed reading and crocheting. Spending time with her family was always a priority.
 
Florence is survived by her sons, Gaylord (Patty) Proxmire, Jr. and Rodger L Proxmire, all of Defiance, and Steve (Andrea) Proxmire of Aurora, CO, her three sisters, Betty Brown of Lilburn, GA, Ruth Ann Lucas of Defiance, and Jean Barns of Toledo, OH, two brothers, William Coffman of Defiance, and Richard A. (Jeanne) Coffman of Defiance, eight grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gaylord J Proxmire, Sr., son, Frank Proxmire, and brother, Rodger Coffman.
 
Visitation will be held from 2-8 pm on Friday, May 31, 2019 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Celebrant Deb Miller officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens.
 
Memorials are suggested to CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center, or Fort Defiance Humane Society.
