Emma Juanita (Hoops) Brandt

Emma J. Brandt, 86, of Defiance, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2019 at Glenn Park of Defiance. 
    
She was born on July 20, 1932 to Samuel F. and Emma K. (Fintel) Hoops at Deshler, Ohio, the 10th of 12 children. On November 2, 1952 she married Marvin C. Brandt who preceded her in death in 2014.  

Emma was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Defiance. She taught Sunday School and Catechism, was a teachers aide, and was active in the Ladies Aid. Earlier in life she worked as a homemaker at Lutheran Social Services, and volunteered as a 4-H Advisor, a Cub Scout den mother, at Defiance County Senior Services, and at The Laurels of Defiance. Emma was a devoted wife and mother, and the heart and soul of her family.     
  
Emma will be greatly missed by her children; Cynthia (Kenn) Sawmiller of Defiance, Gregory (Linda) Brandt of Spring Hill, FL, Alex (Cheryl) Brandt of  Defiance, Eric (Dawn) Brandt of Defiance, and Rodney (Lori) Brandt of Maumee, 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, her sister, Arlene McDougle, and daughter-in-law, Lori Brandt.   
  
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, sons, Bradley Brandt and Jeffrey Brandt, sisters Marie, Norma, Louise, and Wilma, and brothers, Elroy, Edgar, Don, Fred, Victor, and Melvin Hoops.
  
Visitation will be held from 9-11 am on  Friday, February 15, 2019 at St. John Lutheran Church in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the church, with Rev. Donald L. Luhring officiating. Burial will follow the service at St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery.
